Shielding measurements

The effectiveness of the shielding , also known by the SE abbreviation , or Shielding Measurements, indicates the ability of a material or a structure, to attenuate an electric or electromagnetic field. Generally expressed in dB (decibels), it is the ratio between the intensity of the electromagnetic field measured at a point A, positioned in front of a transmission source, in the absence and with the interposition of the material or the shielding structure. Originally, these measurements were carried out only in the military to mainly evaluate the shielding of the premises used for confidential communications, but in recent years, given the significant increase in electromagnetic pollution and related health risks , they have been applied to a wide variety of products.

Fabrics

Shielding fabrics are mainly used for the creation of:

  • Shielded blinds, which make possible the quick creation of rooms protected by electromagnetic fields
  • Shielding badge holders, to protect cards with RFID technology from the risks of cloning

 

Panels and Sheets

Shielded panels are mainly used for the creation of shielded structures such as shelters, shielded rooms, reserved rooms, medical rooms, etc.

Glass

Mainly used for the creation of screens to be applied to small equipment and for shielding windows.

Thanks to our equipment we are able to carry out measurements of electromagnetic shielding in external structures, military and civilian, or at our Laboratory, with the drafting of a detailed test report in English or Italian.

IEEE 299

Description: Uniform measurement procedures and techniques are provided for determining the effectiveness of electromagnetic shielding enclosures at frequencies from 9 kHz to 18 GHz (extendable to 50 Hz and 100 GHz, respectively) for enclosures having no dimension less than 2.0 m. The types of enclosures covered include, but are not limited to, single-shield or double-shield structures of various construction, such as bolted demountable, welded, or integral with a building; and made of materials such as steel plate, copper or aluminum sheet, screening, hardware cloth, metal foil, or shielding fabrics.
 

MIL-STD-285

MIL-STD-285, MILITARY STANDARD: ATTENUATION MEASUREMENTS FOR ENCLOSURES, ELECTROMAGNETIC SHIELDING, FOR ELECTRONIC TEST PURPOSES, METHOD OF (25 JUN 1956) [S/S BY IEEE-STD-299]., This standard covers a method of measuring the attenuation characteristics of electromagnetic shielding enclosures used for electronic test purposes over the frequency range of 100 kilocycles to 10,000 megacycles.
 
 

We can guarantee measurements up to a frequency of 18 GHz with dynamics up to 120 dB.
